About Fair Trade

The Fair Trade mark ensures that a minimum price is paid for commodity products such as tea, coffee, chocolate and so on as well as ensuring minimum standards in terms of trading and working practices. The body responsible for over seeing the issue of Fair Trade marks is the Fair Trade Foundation www.fairtrade.org.uk.

There is not yet an independent Fairtrade Mark for non-commodity items such as the crafts, clothes, and jewellery that And Albert sell. However, we are members of BAFTS (British Association of Fair Trade Shops). All the products on the And Albert website are fairly traded.

We aim to ensure consumers can have trust and confidence that they are getting a fairly traded product by paying fair prices to producers which reflect the true cost of production; supporting producer organisations in their social and environmental projects; promoting gender equality in pay and working conditions; advising on product development to increase access to markets; committing to long term relationships to provide stability and security and campaigning to highlight the unequal system of world trade which places profit above human rights and threatens our environment.
